Many good things are happening at Federal Hocking High School in spite of its financial difficulties.
December was the eight season students participated in the Angel Tree Project. Each Advisory (homeroom) elects a student to choose a child's name from the Angel Tree at Athens University Mall. These children are taken care of by Athens County Children's Services. Each advisory organizes fundraisers such as bake sales or scented candle sales to purchase gifts for the children. During the past eight years students have provided Christmas gifts for over 300 children. Go Students! January brought a relatively new tradition of a two-week Intersession. Intersession began in 2004 and allows students to choose high interest classes such as woodworking, medieval arts and indoor drum line in place of normal studies. Sophomores are required to take OGT (Ohio Graduation Test) study classes during Intersession to prepare for the OGT test coming in March.
