If you take pride in your community and wish to preserve the annual Colville Founder's Day festival to celebrate Coolville's history, please attend a brainstorming meeting Jan. 29 in the Coolville Public Library.

Coolville's first Founder's Day festival was held in 1990 as a way for townsfolk to celebrate Coolville's heritage and community. Music and laughter could be heard throughout the town. Coolville citizens filled the streets alongside visitors from surrounding areas.

Staples of the annual event included a car show, all day music and entertainment and the Chicken Olympics.  The Chicken Olympics was a popular event in which teams from local businesses competed in a variety of activities based around rubber chickens.

In recent years, however, the festival has been an event planned in a hurry without much success, and in 2006 Coolville Town Council voted not to hold it at all.

Founder's Day 2007 will be in the same situation unless community members step forward. A group of 10 to 20 would be optimum to produce a quality festival.

During the festival in 2005, staff at the Coolville Public Library surveyed attendees to get an idea of what they would like to see at Founder's Day in the future. Wonderful ideas such as pie baking contests, games for children, more variety in vendors and entertainers were mentioned, along with the desire to know more about the historical buildings in town.

Those interested in preserving the annual festival are encouraged to attend the meeting at the Coolville Public Library on Monday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. for the 2007 event. Volunteers are needed for fundraising, planning special events, advertising, setting up before and cleaning up after, along with many other details to attend to in such an undertaking.

Those unable to attend the meeting, but wish to participate are encouraged to contact Roxanna Rupe at 667-3354 or This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
