Although John Clark replaced Tom Todd as Coolville’s council president, Chief Sheridan took center stage at the January council meeting.   • Chief Sheridan reported he was pursuing a grant through OCJS (Office of Criminal Justice Systems) to add equipment such as bulletproof vests and a detachable video camera for the cruiser.  The grant would also provide money to increase the patrol hours from 20 to 50 per week. In order for the money to be received, the village would need to pledge ten percent.  Sheridan explained this money has already been figured into the budget and is not requesting additional funds.  • Officer Doug Crites stated the designated school zones are incorrect and will need to be properly placed and marked. According to the minutes of the August 8 meeting, Councilman Randolph (no longer on council) spoke to ODOT about the “School Zone” flashing lights and was informed ODOT was responsible for the signs. Therefore, Council currently expressed hope that the state would replace them with solar powered ones. Look for changes in the zones in the near future.  • Council agreed to Sheridan’s proposal to establish a Police Cruiser Fund into which $10 of court costs of each case will be deposited in order to repair the cruiser or to replace it when necessary.   • Jason Smithson, geologist, and Patrick Fogerty, engineer,of Michael Baker Jr, Inc expressed interest in the sewer project. Michael Baker Jr., Inc, based in Charleston, West Virginia specializes in Puroflo systems using peat filtration.  They assured council although the company did not have experience building decentralized units, they have experience with the individual components and would have little difficulty fulfilling the needs of the village.
